Seeing as how we only have one more class, I feel like I can write a blog about how the class has changed my view on Arthur.
I had not read a single book about Arthur (maybe in elementary or middle school but I don't remember) before now seeing as I don't read much of anything, so I learned a lot in this course. I had seen some movies about Arthur or inspired by Arthurian legend, but having read the text (or part of it) where some of them came from it added a lot to my understanding. I enjoyed this course, even though some of the work was certainly challenging, it was also a lot of fun.
I guess I just wanted to thank you guys and Dr. MB for the fun I've had in this course!

The first I read about King Arthur was when I was in sixth grade. All I remember was that it was confusing and was filled with references to sex that I did not understand at the time. It's much better to be reading about it as a college student!
ReplyDeleteI was actually introduced to Arthur through the Disney adaptation of the once and future king. I even named my first dog Arthur when I was four. I've always been fascinated by Arthur because he's this icon of British history and I think he's a beacon of light in an otherwise dark world. But my perception has also changed. Before this class, I was not familiar with many of the characters and stories we read, and if I walked away with anything, I think it is that stories and legends adapt and change to fit the needs and themes of a given society. So, all I have to say, Is long live Arthur, the once and Future King.
ReplyDeleteYou all are lucky, my first introduction was the Excalibur movie, that I'm pretty sure is rated R. Some bad choices I made when I was home alone. I agree that regardless of how much was known before this class, there was so much learned by the end of the semester.
