Continued thoughts of Avalon High...

To finish up my thoughts about Avalon High I am going to go on a small rant and thought I would make yet another post that shares my feelings on how bad this story was, which I'm sure will all will probably do. I think what bothered me the most about Elle's character was the stereotypes she depicted in the story. The fact that people who have tattoos and piercings make them a drug addict just bogglers my mind. There are so many people in this world today, mainly our age, that have tattoos and piercing and have never touched drugs in their lifetimes. Yes there are some people who do drugs and they have tattoos and piercings, but that does not mean it is everyone doing that. I also have a problem that stories and movies are always trying to capture the attention of all the helpless romantics out there. I am a hopeless romantic myself, but I know that what's depicted in movies and books WILL NEVER HAPPEN in real life. Of course we all know that Will and Elle end up together.

We probably could of guessed that from the beginning of the story, but the fact that Marco tried to mess so many things up between Will and Elle and they still end up together is just not realistic because now a days people get involved in relationships and it screws everything up between those two people. I Just felt like both of these issues in the story were not realistic to life as we know it.

How I don't miss the drama from high school

After finally getting through the reading of Avalon High, I really enjoyed reading the second half of the book because it was a lot less annoying. I could not stand the fact that Elle was so star struck the first time she saw Will in the woods. She also acted really cheesy towards him when he showed up at her house. I thought that was kind of weird though how Will just showed up at the house not even knowing who Elle was. I felt like he was being a stalker. It was also weird how Will acted towards Elle when she asked about his girlfriend Gwen. It is obvious that there relationship is not all happiness and roses. Will came off strange to me when he was standing beside the pool and he went off into his own little world. Weirdo !! It was cheesy when the sword came into the picture. I had like a funny anime fight pictured in my head when this happened.
  Something goofy like this . I guess I would have to say that in some ways this book was great because it did capture the normal drama that happens in high school. I also feel this book was bad because it was just very cheesy and it was made for high school students, not college students so that may be another reason I did not care for the book.

I am Arthur, vote me for Mayor !!

I want to discuss the reading of "Knight Life". Like we discussed yesterday in class, I would not vote for Arthur for Mayor because he has no idea what is going on in the world at the time he decides to run for Mayor. He has to quickly read the constitution to understand the rights that U.S. citizens have. This is not something a qualified candidate should have to do. If a person is running in a political race, they have to know the laws and regulations for the city they are running for. Also, what is the deal with having a nine year old campaign manager ? and the fact that he is hanging out with a bunch of old men ? This is just down right creepy !! I also think that if Arthur became Mayor, his king-like state of mind would take over. This would be a negative affect on society because Arthur would completely try and change our government and the way it is ran. I find it very odd that Arthur's opponents in the race where an attorney general and an actor ! This is like handing Arthur the position of Mayor by not having qualified candidates to run against. I also found it odd that Buddy and Elvis were included in this story since they are homeless men. There's nothing wrong with homeless people, I just did not see how this was related to a political race. It was hard to picture Arthur in New York City . I feel like he would be really out of place running for Mayor outside of a country where he is not from. I wonder if he changes his accent ? Arthur did make valuable points when addressing issues that the reporters presented to him. I thought it was funny when Arthur said people should purchase swords instead of guns because guns are to heavy for children to pick up. Children should not be holding guns anyways !! Although it was amusing that Arthurs commercial was like ten seconds long and to the point, but I really enjoyed that his commercial did not bash any of the other candidates like political commercials do today.

Another Relative ?!?

I remember thinking in the beginning of the semester that Avalon was not a real place in King Arthur's time period. After the first reading of Avalon , I was excited to learn the Avalon is a real place and not made up. My favorite thing about the Mist of Avalon is the fact that a female is finally given some power. I also discussed this in my SWOT analysis as one of the changes that the court should make. Giving females more power I feel will help the court be more successful. I did not really like the fact that they made Morgaine a sex symbol because I feel like it is to much like our society today where women are based off of looks and sex. I know that in todays world sex sells, but I would of liked her to be seen in a different light. I do not think that Morgaine should give up her empowerment for Lancelot (who does not like women to have power). It is so irritating to see women do this today. Women need to be strong and independent or men will never look at us any differently. I think I wanted to stop reading after the priestess gave her virginity away to a half animal man.       Completely Gross in everyway I can think of !!
It is no surprise though that tow people find out their related to one another again. It must be the thing in this time period.

Animation has come along way

I never watched The Sword in the Stone  as a child and watching it for my film project I was disappointed at first. This movie had a lot of animation issues that it noticed as I watched. When an object was suppose to appear in Warts hand, it showed up in the opposite hand or just the graphics in general got a lot of hate when  receiving feedback, but after watching it a second time I ended up really enjoying it and I picked up on a lot of similarities to our book. I was very surprised that our readings of The Once a Future King resembled the Disney movie so much. I found it interesting that in the Disney movie, Merlyn was not as scary and Stand offish as he has been portrayed in texts. I think it is because they made this a Disney movie, they do not want kids to be afraid of the characters in the movie. It was not surprising that merlyn's house had magical items and that he could see into the future. All authorian stories have some sort of magic in them that we have read so far. It is no longer a shocker that everyone is seducing each other and finding out later on that a persons related to someone else, so when Lancelot thinks the least of mordred in the book The Once a Future King and later finds out that he is Arthur's son, this was no shock to me or when Lancelot tells Arthur that Morgause seduced King Pellinore's. If  leaders of our world actdvlike this today, people would go crazy and demand consequences. I am looking forward to our next reading to see what lies ahead for King Arthur.

poetry may be the death of me

While reading The Lady of Shalott, I found it difficult to understand what was happening in the story and why the lady always stood at her mirror. After going over some of the helpful tips to read poetry in class I'm having an easier time reading our next poem, Tennyson, Idylls of the King. I do not understand why Lancelot is always in every story and why he is made to be so appealing to every maiden. I do not think that Lancelot should be looked at as a noble knight after he has had an affair with Guinevere for fourteen years.  In the story of the Holy Grail, I think it was right for Galahad to have succeeded in his quest because Lancelot has not been noble and is not worthy of the grail because of his affair. I think most of the stories should portray Lancelot has he was seen in the story of the Holy Grail. He is not worthy of anything because of his disrespect not only to himself, but also the king.

I also found it interesting that in The Fair Maid of Astolat that Launcelot wanted his identity shielded from king Arthur in battle. If he wants to be known for being a powerful knight, why would he conceal his identity. I think it was funny how as soon as Elaine saw Launcelot  she was head over heels in love with him. It was wrong of Launcelot to except the token from Elaine because he was just using her to conceal his identity. I was surprised that the story had Launcelot being struck in battle and severely hurt because in all the other Arthurian stories we have read, he has been a fearless, powerful knight that no one can compare to. I definitely think that Lancelot's true colors have come out in these last few stories.

The beloved affairs

I'm sure like most people in the class I was shocked about what happened in The Saga of the Mantle.
I think what shocked me the most was the fact that only one women was found to be faithful to her beloved in the story. I didn't even think women back then even had affairs let alone let their men actually touch them, hence the courtly love rules. Appearently even women back then like today , have problems staying faithful to one man. I was also surprised that not one women even thought about questioning the men in the room. If that many women were unfaithful, my first instinct would be to also find out how the men in the room add up. I did find it funny that the group of women just kept getting bigger and bigger as they tried the mantel on like " oh hey just add yourself to the large group of women over there, it's no big deal. " I know the men in the story were mad about the affairs, but I thought they would be a lot more upset about it. The one thing I enjoyed was at the end of the story when the knight told his beloved that she didn't have to try on the mantel because he believed in her and he didn't care if she was unfaithful or not, he would still love her either way .  This made me believe that true love can still exist.

King Arthur from high school

There's not a lot I remember about King Arthur but what I learned in ninth grade, so my influence map is based off of my knowledge of Jing Arthur from the ninth grade.
This photo represents what I remember about King Arthur the most. I do believe that King Arthur was real and not a made up character. When I think about King Arthur I think about a war hero and a strong solider. I think about tho when I see the photo of King Arthur pulling the sword for the stone.

Another photo that I remember studying well was the death of King Arthur in Le Morte De Arthur. The thing I remember the most is how sad everyone around King Arthur is that he passed away.
